Summer
by Jeannie House
On a hot summer day
With nothing to do
A friend and I went out to play
Hanging from a tall oak tree
There was a swing waiting for us
With ropes so long they would let you fly
All way up in sky
In a hole under the swing
We made a pool of water
Who will be first
I will! I said
As I sat on the swing seat
I pushed off with my feet
and flew over the muddy water
way up into the sky
Back down again
And let my long hair
Drag through the muddy water
My friend and I screamed and laughed
With joy on this hot summer’s day
My friend said with a smile
I’m next
Mom, out the door
yelled,
WHY oh WHY !!!
